Abstract

Authors develop a three-dimensional Eulerian computational fluid dynamics (CFD) reactive flow model for the trickle flow regime in a packed bed.  They conduct an experimental study of porosity distribution in a bed of extrudates.  Results are used to implement the local porosity values in the CFD computational grid.

Their study addressed gas and liquid reactant limited systems.  They present a closed form approach of coupling the bed and particle scale solution within the CFD framework for each case.
