A Synchronized Scheduling Approach of Ethylene Plant Production and
Naphtha Oil Inventory Management

Abstract
The ethylene production process and feedstock
management are critical activities in an olefin plant. Analysis of these two
problems makes possible better use of the plant feeding material and enhanced
production capabilities.
Authors
develop an innovative, synchronized decision-supporting framework for long-term
planning and scheduling in an ethylene plant by simultaneously considering
upstream naphtha inventory management and downstream ethylene furnace operation
with a sub-cooperative model. The model also incorporates more logistic and
operational characteristics of the sub-problems in practice. The efficacy and
the economic potential of the proposed integration framework are illustrated
through a comprehensive case study from the real world ethylene plant.
