Researchers
examined oxidative-extractive desulfurization (OEDS) of liquid fuel using an
ionic liquid prepared by coordination of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with
ZnCl2. Researchers synthesized model liquid fuel by dissolving
dibenzothiophene (DBT) in iso-octane. They also tested actual diesel for
total sulfur removal.
Oxidation in the OEDS process was achieved by adding hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid to the mixture. Researchers optimized a number of parameters, including oil to ionic liquid ratio, oxidant to sulfur ratio and temperature. They conducted a kinetic study at various temperatures in order to calculate the reaction rate constants. Optimized conditions were also tested for their applicability on actual diesel. |
