Abstract
In the chemical process industry, startup typically
is initiated by plant operators who follow predefined standard operating
procedures (SOP) so that the plant settles into a steady state. Operator errors
and process faults during startup are common. Existing diagnostic methods do
not take operator errors into account, and do not make full use of the
knowledge of SOP.
Authors
present a fault diagnosis strategy for a startup process based on SOP. The
approach proposes behavior observer combined with dynamic PCA to simultaneously
estimate process faults and operator errors. They have implemented the method
on UniSim. They have determined that it
successfully detects faults during the startup of a debutanizer.
