Abstract
|
Researchers
used FeO-clinoptilolite in the photodegradation of furfural (C5H4O2) in a
wastewater sample under Hg-lamp irradiation. They monitored degradation
extent by UV/V by absorption spectroscopy, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and
high-performance liquid chromatography. Results indicated that the efficiency
of the process significantly depended on the experimental factors.
The best degradation extent of the pollutant was obtained at: pH 8, 4 g L−1 of the catalyst, irradiation time of 120 min, 50 mmol/L H2O2, and 50 mg/L KBrO3. A decrease of COD up to 45% was observed after 120 min irradiation of the sample. |
