Abstract
The
intrinsic structural features of ordered mesoporous materials has created
opportunities for new applications in heterogeneous catalysis. Despite this,
these materials have not met the researchers' expectations. This is due to severe limitations related to
the strength of acid sites, as well as thermal/hydrothermal stability, which is
significantly lower than those of zeolites, and the amorphous nature of the
mesostructured materials.
Authors compare the peculiarities of mesostructured materials to
those of zeolite catalysts in reactions of industrial interest. They describe new
synthesis strategies, designed for preparing materials with improved
physico-chemical and textural properties, together with the catalytic features
of the resulting materials.
